Rifle Falls State Park
Rifle Falls State Park is a beautiful park with 3 water falls, various caves, 3 unique hiking trails, a refreshing creek, numerous picnic tables along the creek, a quaint amphitheater and 20 total camp sites that accommodate tents, trailers, campers and other sites for larger parties. The spectacular views from below and above the water falls allows for great photo opportunities. The mist cast from the water falls is also incredibly refreshing on a hot summer day. And if that’s not enough for you, you can always take off your shoes and enjoy a nice dip in the creek (it’s not too great for swimming, but nice to put your feet in…). The caves are also very cool and provide an amazing time of spelunking with the kids.
There are 3 Hiking trails for visitors enjoyment; the Squirrel Trail, Coyote Trail, and the Bobcat Trail which leads to the fish hatchery. All are beginner to intermediate trails, nothing too difficult, good for families with young children or grandparents.
Visitors are also welcome to 13 different drive-in camp sites and 7 different walk-in sites. Each site has it’s own unique appeal to it, some along the creek provide peaceful places to make great memories with the family. Camping permits are available at the entrance of the park and also at the parks self-service station. Camp site reservations are recommended in the summer time, call (303) 470-1144 or online at www.colorado.gov/parks.
Rifle Falls State Park is also a great place for picnics and parties. The park provides picnic tables along the creek and trails for visitors to be able to enjoy birthdays or barbeques, and also features an amphitheater for those of you who want to put on a play or renew your wedding vows.
Fish can also be abundant in the creeks and ponds around the water falls for small brook and rainbow trout. If it’s big game you’re looking for here is not the place, but the surrounding National Forest and BLM lands provide excellent hunting opportunities. Information on hunting regulations and seasons is available from the park staff or office.
You may purchase a Rifle Falls State Parks Pass from the front desk or the self service station. Passes are needed year round.
